Fortunat Frölich, choR inteR kultuR & Choeur du Maroc
chanta, o unda - Singe, oh Welle
The Engadine composer Armon Cantieni and his Moroccan colleague Houcine Slaoui probably never met during their lifetime. Both worked in Paris, both had an essential influence on their country’s folk music and both composed a song about a river. Slaoui celebrated in song the river of his hometown Salé. Cantieni dedicated a choral work to his own river Inn. The Grisons composer and conductor Fortunat Frölich has combined both these works in the song cycle «annahrani / ils duos flüms». A mixed choir from the Romansh part of Switzerland with the Chœur du Maroc and its instrumental accompaniment from Rabat share the stage.
A fascinating musical confrontation – polyphonic, rhythmical, strange yet familiar. (MB)
