For the first time, the Berlin-based Argentinian choreographer Constanza Marcas is presenting her work in Switzerland. Following intense research in Roma communities in Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Hungary, she has created an ensemble of 19 singers and dancers, professionals and amateurs. Backed by members of her company DorkyPark and a live band, they portray their lives as Roma. Macras, who has successfully worked with amateur actors before, masterfully handles potential clichés and prejudices as she does not bank on sympathy for ethnic minorities. «Open for Everything» is a powerful music and dance theatre piece, which recounts the living conditions of the Roma and their search for identity between tradition and cliché, romantisation and persecution in a touching yet unsentimental, captivating yet inconspicuous way.
