When the Eva Quartet raise their voices, even the most urban and jaded listener will experience a thrill. The four soloists of the famous choir «Le mystère des voix bulgares» evoke a mesmerizing world of multilayered vocal sounds. Their repertoire comprises folk songs and chorales as well as contemporary compositions from Bulgaria. For their latest CD, they have collaborated with Laurie Anderson, Hector Zazou, Robert Fripp and Bill Frisell. The contact with experimental musicians has added new elements to their expression, such as rap, precise dissonances, adventurous rhythm changes and improvisation. Yet their voices remain of breathtaking purity and virtuosity. (ron)
