Even though Ivo Papasov is deeply rooted in the musical tradition of his country, he has long been a world musician. Adhering to the complex rhythms of East European folk music, he improvises over the melodies and boldly breaks up the genres: folk music, jazz, klezmer, blues ‒ Papasov mixes and matches them superbly. His virtuoso clarinet playing almost makes one’s head spin. His Wedding Band effortlessly keeps up with him, following one entry with the next, fast-paced, breathless, exhilarating. (ron)
