They are both among the most eminent artists of Sub-Saharan Africa, both repeated guests at the festival and both explorers of the history of their native countries. Now the South African performer Boyzie Cekwana and the Mozambican dancer-choreographer Panaibra Canda show their first conjoint work, the result of a longstanding friendly collaboration. Their work is based on the Nkomati Accord of 1984, a non-aggression pact between the South African apartheid regime and communist Mozambique. Although considered a «historical» agreement, it was never fully honoured. Together with two dancers, one of them without legs, Canda and Cekwana present a profound performance, illustrating what mutual understanding can and cannot do and how difficult it can be to overcome differences.
