Zürcher Theater Spektakel

An audience ready for a physical experience ‒ that’s what the Brazilian dancer-choreographer Lia Rodrigues wants for «Pororoca». The piece bears the name of a potent tidal bore that occurs at the mouth of the Amazon River where it meets the Atlantic Ocean. This powerful clash of the elements serves as a metaphor for the performance of eleven outstanding young dancers who portray the challenges of living together in confined spaces or under precarious conditions. Rodrigues’ creative works have a social component. «Pororoca» also reflects the tough and hectic reality of Rio’s favela Maré, where the company has lived and worked in recent years. (kdi)
